Jamshedpur, Aug 22: A 55-year-old man was fatally injured, caused by a blast at a stone quarry under the Kowali thana area in Potka block near Jamshedpur on Tuesday morning.
Identified as Manoj Puran, the victim was a shepherd and was injured while shepherding goats near the quarry when the blast was triggered.
The incident took place at Lakhansai panchayat along the Hata-Mosabani road about 28 km away from here.
The explosion caused boulders and stones to fly up, causing one of them to hit Manoj in the chest. As a result of it, the victim fell down. Soon some of the mining workers rushed him to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.
Soon after the incident, the residents of Lakhansai where Manoj would live gathered at the quarry and forcibly stopped the mining work.
OC, Kowali thana, Ranjit Oraon said that they are trying to find out whether the management of the stone quarry had followed the protocol while triggering a blast at the quarry.
“From the preliminary investigation, it is learned that the quarry management had not taken necessary safety measures before triggering the blast. We will take appropriate action against the quarry owner after concluding the investigation, ” said Oraon while talking to lagatar24.com.
Manoj Puran was the only earning member of the family.
