New Delhi, Nov 22: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday denied a public interest litigation (PIL) petition that asked for the Central Bureau of Probe to take over the Delhi Police’s investigation into the murder of Shraddha Walkar.
The police are conducting their investigation, and the court will not oversee it, according to a division bench consisting of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad.
The Court also went on to reject the plea and impose costs.
According to the Delhi Police, a team led by senior police officials is conducting the case’s investigation, and 80% of it has already been finished. The Central government disagreed with the PIL, arguing that a private party cannot determine how an investigation should be carried out through a PIL.
Joshini Tuli, an attorney in practise, filed a PIL alleging that the Delhi Police exposed critical and minute facts of the inquiry to the public through the media.
“That so far the Delhi Police/P.S. Mehrauli have revealed each and every detail to the media and public person regarding every step of their investigation which is not permitted as per law,” the plea said.
The presence of the media and other members of the public at the locations of recoveries, during court proceedings, and so forth was further claimed to constitute interference with the evidence and witnesses in the current case.

The petitioner also made it clear that no other people, entities, or organisations would likely be harmed by the requested relief; rather, it would only likely affect the accused, complainant, and the general Delhi population.
The argument emphasised that the victim’s body pieces were disposed of at several locations following the crime, which was said to have occurred in Delhi. Therefore, it was said, the Mehrauli Police Station is not suited to conduct the investigation due to a staffing shortage and a lack of technical resources.
