New Delhi, March 22: Shreyas Iyer, a middle-order batsman for India and captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League is set to have surgery for his back issue. According to the reports, Iyer, who has been sidelined since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy final day in 2023, is anticipated to have surgery under the careful supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India either in London or elsewhere in India.

According to sources, Iyer was urged to have surgery after his third consultation with a doctor in Mumbai. According to reports, Iyer will be unable to play for at least five months following surgery which means he will miss important events like the World Test Championship Final against Australia and the Indian Premier League.

KKR will now have to name a new captain as the IPL gets underway on March 31.KKR will play its first match on 1 April, while the World Test Championship final between India and Australia is scheduled to take place at the Oval in England on June 7.

Iyer’s participation in the ODI World Cup would be in doubt, but it is doubtful that India will consider the batter without giving him a chance to play before the competition.

The batsman entered the playing Eleven for the second Test match in Delhi after skipping the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Iyer had said that he was physically well and that his back problems were behind him at the time.
