CONRAD DIAS
Ranchi, June 30: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the Amar Shaheed Sido Kanhu Gate at Bhognadih, Sahibganj on Thursday on the occasion of Hul Diwas.
He addressed the people after offering prayers at the memorial site of Amar Shaheed Sido-Kanhu. He also directed the concerned officials to take prompt action on the memorandum given by their descendants.
The CM said that the tribal society has been fighting for its rights for a long time. A living example of this can be found in Bhognadih, where Amar Veer Shaheed Sido-Kanhu fought for the interests of the tribal society against the British.
According to the CM, tribal society has established its own identity in the country by performing its social responsibilities. This society has been playing its major role in saving water-forest-land.
He added that historians believe that after the formation of the earth, the land first appeared in the Kolhan region of Jharkhand. Some remains from the dinosaur era are also found here. He further said that the tribal societies have been fighting to protect their interests from the very beginning. Many hundred years ago, great tribal leaders like Phoolo-Jhano, Chand-Bhairava, and Sido-Kanho fought for their rights and united people for the benefit of society.
Hul Diwas has been observed every year since 1855. On this day, 161 years ago, the Hul revolution in the Dumka village of Bhognadih was launched under the leadership of Sido, Kanho, and Chand Bhairvav. Following severe police suppression, the movement, which was initially against predatory lenders, later evolved into a revolt against British rule. However, even 161 years later, the Hul revolutionaries’ offspring have not been able to fully realize their rights.
Rajmahal MP Shri Vijay Kumar Hansda and district administration officials were present on this occasion.
