Daltonganj, Feb 6: Prompt action of officials of the anti human trafficking unit and Kolebira police in Simdega district in Jharkhand helped save and rescue a 17-year-old tribal girl from being trafficked out of state on Saturday.
SP Simdega Shams Tabrez said, ‘The anti human trafficking unit and Kolebira police, under a joint operation intercepted a bus at Telanga Kharya Shaheed Chowk and rescued a tribal girl. Her trafficker, a woman, was also nabbed in the bus.
SP Tabrez said the trafficker has been identified as Suman Belung (40). Notably, Belung and the victim come from the same hamlet PahanToli under the Kolebira police station area in Simdega.
Simdega SP said the duo were enroute to Rourkela from Sisai via bus when they were stopped.
“Suman had enticed the girl with ‘a job offer’ and ‘a bright future in Delhi’ and was accompanying her since January 3,” SP Tabrez said.
“The girl was kept in Sisai and then on Saturday, she was to be trafficked out of state. Belung has been remanded in judicial custody in Simdega under sections 363,370(4) of the IPC and sections 75/ 81under the Juvenile Justice Act,” he added.
The rescued girl has been temporarily lodged in the One Step Centre with her mother. The SP further added that the girl will be medically examined on Sunday in the Simdega government hospital.
Her medical examination will be on two counts. These are the determination of her age and second if she has been physically abused in any manner between January 31 and February 5.
She will be then taken down to the civil court for her statement before the judicial magistrate. Her recorded statement under 164 of the CrPC will be crucial evidence to nail down the trafficker.
“As many as 95 teens, mostly girls have been rescued and saved from being trafficked out of Jharkhand in a span of 15-16 months in Simdega. Meanwhile, 35 human traffickers have been caught and jailed during this time period,” SP said.
