Singapore, August 27: As he joined followers of the philosopher and freedom fighter in commemorating his 150th birth anniversary, India’s envoy in Singapore remarked that Sri Aurobindo’s life is still an inspiration for people today.
Shilpak Ambule, the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore, made the comments while taking part in a commemorative seminar.
Experts took part in the three-hour seminar titled “Humanity Unity & Individual Growth: A Journey of Destiny in the Light of Sri Aurobindo,” while musicians from the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society performed musical pieces.
The seminar was also attended by about 120 Sri Aurobindo followers.
Sri Aurobindo’s life was highlighted by Ambule, who emphasised how the poet, yogi, seer and philosopher is “an inspiration for all of us today.”
Experts discussed how Sri Aurobindo had proposed the “Integral Yoga” path, which aims to elevate human awareness by embracing all three facets of the human being: the soul, mind and vital.
Sri Aurobindo went to Puducherry in 1910 to focus on Sadhana (penance).
The seminar participants were given an insight into the Puducherry Ashram Auroville, which currently serves as a testament to the seer’s teachings and philosophy and receives pilgrims from all over the world.
The 51-year-old Sri Aurobindo’s Society, Singapore, organized the event.
