New Delhi, July 14: PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, and HS Prannoy, who is in great form, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open Super 500 badminton competition on Thursday.
In the women’s singles competition, third seed Sindhu defeated world number 59 Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam 19-21, 21-19, 21-18 to advance to a matchup with China’s Han Yue. World No. 19 Prannoy defeated third-seeded Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in an hour and nine minutes for his second victory in three weeks. Chou Tien Chen is rated fourth in the world.
The 29-year-old Indian will next compete against Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in an effort to end his five-year title streak.

Ashmita Chaliha, who had previously defeated Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand, was unable to advance further in the competition after falling to Han Yue of China 9-21 13-21.
Later on in the day, Saina Nehwal, a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist, and the up-and-coming men’s doubles team of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will also be competing.
