Six die in series of shootings in US’s Mississippi, suspect held

New Delhi, Feb 18: At least six people were shot dead in a series of shooting in a rural town in the US state of Mississippi on Friday.

As per information, one person was arrested in connection with the incident.

Earlier on Friday, the Tate County Sheriff said that gunmen killed victims at various locations in Arkabutla, which lies about 50 km south of Memphis, Tennessee.

Moreover, one shooting incident took place inside the store on Arkabutla Road where a man was shot and killed, added Tate County Sheriff.

Taking to Twitter, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves said on Friday that he had been briefed on the series of shootings in Tate County and that a male suspect has been taken into custody.

“The individual responsible has been taken into custody alive. At this time, we believe he acted alone. His motive is not yet known. I will ensure that the full resources of the state are available to law enforcement as we continue to investigate the situation. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) has been asked to assist in this investigation. Please pray for the victims of this tragic violence and their families at this time,” tweeted Reeves.

Meanwhile, a woman also died inside a home on Arkabutla Dam Road. However, her husband was injured in the incident, but it’s unclear if he was shot. Four others were found. dead. Two were inside the house and two outside, also on Arkabutla Dam Road.

Tate County deputies took the suspect into custody after finding him inside a vehicle on Arkabutla Dam Road. However, the suspect’s identity has not been revealed yet.
