Lagatar Desk: Six soldiers were martyred due to stone pelting and firing by chaotic elements on the Assam-Mizoram border on Monday. It is said that there was stone pelting and firing by some chaotic elements from Mizoram on the border of both the states. Six soldiers were martyred due to this. The Chief Ministers of both the states have demanded the intervention of the Union Home Minister, accusing each other.

Assam Police personnel martyred

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet that I am deeply pained to inform that six brave soldiers of Assam Police were martyred while protecting the constitutional boundary of our state on the Assam-Mizoram border. My condolences are with the families of the martyrs. Let us tell you that recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also held a meeting regarding this issue of border dispute. On this matter, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga tweeted and wrote that Himanta ji, Amit Shah ji had a decisive meeting with both the Chief Ministers. After that surprisingly today two companies of Assam Police along with the citizens came near the Veringte auto rickshaw stand in Mizoram and fired tear gas shells and lathi-charged the citizens present there. They also drove away CRPF and Mizoram Police personnel.

According to the information received, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Chief Ministers of Assam and Mizoram and asked them to resolve the border issue. Both the Chief Ministers have agreed to resolve the issue and maintain peace. Police forces of both the states have returned from the disputed site. Tension arose between the two states when the Assam Police allegedly started encroaching on the border to take possession of the state’s land. On July 10, when the Assam government team went to the spot, they were attacked by unidentified people with a bomb. After that the controversy escalated.
