Gangtok, April 4: At least six people died as an avalanche struck the Nathula region of Sikkim on Tuesday. According to reports, a tourist bus fell into a steep valley as a result of an avalanche that slammed the region, killing four men, one woman, and one kid.
According to officials in the defence, the avalanche that happened at the 14th milepost on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg confined 25 to 30 visitors.
“Swift rescue operations were launched by the Border Roads Organisation and 22 people have been rescued till now, including 6 from a deep valley,” they said. In addition, once the snow was removed from the roadways, 350 trapped visitors and 80 automobiles were rescued.
