Small online payments helping build big digital economy: PM Modi

New Delhi, April 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that everyday digital transactions of 20,000 crore are now taking place in the country, adding that this is not only improving services but also encouraging an honest society.

PM Modi stated in his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast that tiny online payments are assisting in the development of a large digital economy, and that many new fintech start-ups are emerging. He also encouraged anyone with knowledge of digital payments or the startup sector to share it with others.

“Your experiences can be a source of inspiration for others in the country.Now digital transactions worth ? 20,000 crore are taking place daily in our country. In March, UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transactions even reached ? 10 lakh crore,” he said.

“This is not only increasing facilities in the country but also encouraging an environment of honesty,” he added.

People from all around the country have written him letters and greetings regarding the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, which was launched on Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birthday, April 14. PM Modi stated that there is no better time than the 75th anniversary of India’s independence to honour prime ministers’ contributions. He also encouraged people to go to a local museum over the holidays and share their experiences using the hashtag ‘MuseumMemories.’

The PM also urged people to take all Covid related precautions in view of upcoming festivals in May.
