New Delhi, Dec 29: Smriti Mandhana, the vice-captain of India, is nominated for the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
Smriti is competing against Nida Dar of Pakistan, Sophie Devine of New Zealand, and Tahlia McGrath of Australia for the ICC award. Smriti, Nat Sciver, Gaby Lewis, and eventual winner Tammy Beaumont were all nominated for the award the previous year.
The vice-captain of India was in excellent form in 2022, scoring 593 runs in 23 matches, including 5 fifty-plus scores. In the shortest version of the game, Smriti scored133 to lead India’s scoring tables. Smriti led India’s batting rankings the previous year as well, with 255 runs in 9 games.
Mandhana had a successful year, making her imprint on the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Bangladesh, the fastest fifty by an Indian woman ever (off just 23 balls), and a memorable five-match T20I home series against Australia. The 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham.

In the second of a five-match series against Australia at home, Smriti proved she will be among the most dangerous hitters at the World Cup in 2019. She took on the highly regarded Australian attack. She hit 13 runs off the final three balls of the Super Over after the game was tied, smashing a 49-ball 79 in a chase of 188.
