New Delhi, Oct 19: Sonia Gandhi, the outgoing Congress president, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the AICC general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh, met with the veteran leader at his residence in the nation’s capital shortly after Mallikarjun Kharge was chosen as the new Congress president after defeating Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday.
Sonia and Priyanka gave Kharge their congratulations and best wishes during the meeting. The Gandhi family also got to know Radhabai and Priyank Kharge, the wife and son of Mallikarjun Kharge.
Kharge won 7,897 of the 9,385 votes cast in the Congress presidential election, while Tharoor received just 1,072 votes, and 416 votes were ruled invalid, according to the chairman of the central election authority for the party, Madhusudan Mistry.
