New Delhi, July 27: In connection with the National Herald case, Sonia Gandhi, the interim leader of the Congress, is scheduled to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday for the third day. Sonia was interrogated for more than six hours on Tuesday before being given permission to depart.
Security outside the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters has been stepped up as a result of clashes between Congress officials and police during protests. Senior Congressmen detained at Kingsway Camp on Tuesday before being released include Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and K C Venugopal.
Police are accused of beating up Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas BV and other party members on Vijay Chowk and Akbar Road. The Delhi Police has opened an investigation into the employees who are accused of assaulting Srinivas and other leaders.
On Wednesday, the party will run veterans Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma to support Sonia and criticise the BJP-led administration.
