New Delhi, Mar 30: Sony has officially unveiled a new PlayStation game subscription service, long thought to be the company’s answer to Xbox Game Pass.
PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now will be combined into a single subscription option for members named PlayStation Plus.
“We are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. This June, we’re bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally,” Jim Ryan, President and CEO, of Sony Interactive Entertainment said in a statement.
The new subscription service will be accessible in three tiers, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE).
The first is PlayStation Plus Essential, which is essentially the programme in its current state and offers subscribers at least two free games per month as well as multiplayer access. The PlayStation Plus Extra tier will provide customers access to a library of 400 downloadable titles.
All of the perks from the Essential and Extra tiers will be included in the top tier, as well as up to 340 more games. Surprisingly, this will also include PS3 games that will be streamed over the internet.
Sony has announced that games such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal will be included in the launch lineup.
By the end of the first half of 2022, Sony has promised that the new PlayStation Plus service will be available in most PlayStation Network territories.
