Seoul, Mar 16: South Korea is currently experiencing its greatest Covid-19 outbreak following China, with over 4,00,000 infection cases reported on Wednesday.
South Korea reported 4,00,741 new daily Covid-19 cases, the most since the government reported its first Covid-19 case in January last year, according to state media.
The majority of these cases were thought to be spread locally.
With the addition of new patients, South Korea’s overall caseload has risen to 7,629,275, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).
According to the Associated Press, South Korea recorded its bloodiest day of the pandemic on Tuesday, with 293 deaths reported in only 24 hours.
China is also experiencing the worst outbreak of the virus in two years, as most countries across the world open up and resumes regular life with a drop in Covid-19 cases.
In a single day on Sunday, the country reported 3,100 new locally transmitted cases, the largest number in two years. The Omicron strain has been blamed by certain local authorities for the increase in cases.
