SpiceJet put under ‘enhanced surveillance’ by DGCA

New Delhi, July 12: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has increased surveillance over SpiceJet Airlines as a preventative measure.

Given the occurrences that occurred during the monsoon season of last year, a senior DGCA official acknowledged that the airline has been placed under enhanced surveillance with no operational impact.

The major goal of enhanced surveillance is to make sure that there won’t be any potential negative effects on flight operations as a result of financial issues.

On 27 July last year, the regulator asked SpiceJet to cut the total number of flights by 50 per cent for eight weeks after repeated safety incidents with the airline.

The airline was under “Enhanced surveillance” throughout this time.  The limitations were eliminated on October 30 of last year.

According to a financial assessment conducted by the DGCA in September 2021, Spicejet operates on a cash-and-carry basis and suppliers recognized vendors are not regularly paid, which causes a scarcity of spare parts and frequent use of Minimum Equipment Lists (MELS).
