New Delhi: The Delhi Police investigation into allegations of sexual harassment at the Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management in Vasant Kunj has revealed disturbing evidence against Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, a self-styled spiritual leader born Partha Sarathy in Odisha. Multiple women students have accused the 52-year-old of harassment, coercion, and intimidation, according to an FIR filed in August 2025.
Pattern of Harassment Detailed in FIR
One complainant described how the abuse began after she was admitted in October 2024. Following a fall in December that left her with a hairline fracture, Saraswati allegedly asked her to send her X-ray report to his personal phone. Soon after, he reportedly began sending inappropriate WhatsApp messages such as “Baby,” “I love you,” and “I adore you.” The student also alleged threats of reduced marks and official notices if she ignored him. Similar testimonies from other students suggest a pattern of intimidation stretching back years.
Events and Intimidation Tactics
According to the FIR, Saraswati allegedly misused his position during events and personal interactions. During a Holi celebration, students were compelled to apply colour to him first, after which one complainant said he forcibly recorded a video with her and made objectionable remarks. On another occasion, under the guise of performing a religious ritual for his new BMW, he reportedly called a student to his quarters and later sent coercive messages.
Staff Involvement and Wider Evidence
Three women staff members named in the FIR — Shweta, Bhavana, and Kajal — allegedly pressured students to delete incriminating exchanges and even drafted apology emails on their behalf. Investigators say WhatsApp chats and phone records from nearly 50 women suggest harassment spanning over 16 years. This is not the first time Saraswati has faced such allegations; molestation charges in 2009 and 2016 reportedly fell through due to his influence.
Current Status of Case
In the present case, 17 women jointly lodged complaints in August. Saraswati, initially believed to be in London, was later traced to Agra. He withdrew an anticipatory bail application from the Delhi High Court within days of filing it. Delhi Police have since launched raids across multiple states, issued a Lookout Circular, and confirmed that he remains absconding.
