Colombo, July 11: Following official notification from Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that he is stepping down from his position, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe convened a Cabinet meeting with all of the ministers on Monday in the prime minister’s office.
As the pressure from the protestors increased, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa officially told Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he is leaving from his position.
“Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held a discussion with the Cabinet Ministers this morning (11 am) at the Prime Minister’s Office,” the PM media unit said in a statement.
“All the ministers who participated in the meeting were of the opinion that as soon as there is an agreement to form an All-Party Government, they are ready to hand over their responsibilities to that Government,” it added.
As the pressure from the protestors increased, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa officially told Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he is leaving from his position.
The Prime Minister’s media office announced that Rajapaksa had been informed that he would be quitting as previously stated, according to Colombo Gazette.
The President will step down from his position on July 13 according to a press conference that Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena had earlier on Saturday.
