Colombo, April 4: Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has invited all political parties in the country to join the Ministry in resolving the country’s crisis. He has urged all political parties to collaborate in order to find a solution to the country’s current situation.
This comes after Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers resigned with immediate effect late Sunday night, as the country faces its greatest economic crisis in history.
“Current crisis is due to several economic and global factors. As one of the leading democracies in Asia,it needs to be addressed within framework of democracy itself. Together we must work together in national interest for benefit of citizens and future generations,” President said in his letter.
Notably, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s resignation has been demanded by an irate people. On March 31, an enraged mob encircled Rajapaksa’s private residence, prompting the government to proclaim a state of emergency.
The 36-hour curfew that was imposed on Sri Lanka on Saturday evening was lifted at 6 a.m. on Monday morning, but the country remains in a state of emergency.
