Colombo, July 13: Hours after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the nation and arrived in the Maldives on the day he was meant to step down, the political situation in Sri Lanka has not yet been resolved. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the prime minister, assumed the role of president and proclaimed a state of emergency. He has also offered to step down if a unity government is agreed upon.
However, despite security forces’ use of tear gas, protests went on with the people standing their ground. Even the prime minister’s home was invaded by demonstrators calling for his resignation.
In a video shared by news agency ANI, the protesters are seen inside the PM’s residence with the Lankan flags.
