Colombo, July 9: The protest in Sri Lanka in response to months of growing public outrage over the nation’s worst economic crisis in seven decades is still continuing.

Thousands of angry anti-government protesters stormed into Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s official residence in central Colombo on Saturday, demanding his resignation over the island nation’s worst economic crisis in recent memory. As a result, Sri Lanka’s powerful lawyers’ body questioned Rajapaksa’s ability to function and maintain his position of power, according to PTI.

Meanwhile, all schools in Sri Lanka have been closed till July 15. At least four state universities in Sri Lanka have temporarily closed.

Just before tens of thousands of demonstrators stormed the property on Saturday, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left his official residence in Colombo.

After the president left his home, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe requested an urgent meeting with his cabinet ministers. The PM was informed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that he will respect any decision made at the party leaders’ gathering.
