Dhanbad, Sept 16: The four-member committee of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad has finally submitted its report to Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Sukhdeo Bhoi on the suicide attempt incident of SSLNT Women’s College history department teacher Dr Beena Sharma.

A senior officer of BBMKU admitted that the probe report was submitted on Friday and the VC would take action on the basis of the investigation statement.

SSLNT Women’s College history department teacher Dr Veena Sharma on August 5, 2023 afternoon tried to commit suicide by hanging with a ceiling fan in the department chamber. The faculty members and staff of the college rescued her by breaking the door.

Rattled by the incident, VC Sukhdeo Bhoi set up a four- member committee comprising Proctor Dr Sughinta Sinha, RSP College principal Dr JN Singh, Gurunanak College principal Dr Sanjay Prasad, and Jamadoba Degree College principal Dr R P Singh to probe and file a report.

A retired principal of the university said that now the ball is in the court of the VC to take action. He can remove the principal, transfer and even demote her if the probe report indicts her.

In 2017, the then Vice-Chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) Hazaribagh Dr Gurmeet Singh had sacked principal of PK Roy Memorial College Dhanbad Dr DK Verma on alleged suicide attempt by a student.
A college teacher had caught a girl student while cheating in examination. The girl later was crushed to death under vehicle on NH-32. V-C Dr Gurmeet Singh as punishment had removed Principal Dr DK Verma and posted him at the university.

The colleges of Dhanbad and Bokaro was then under VBU Hazaribagh.

In 2015 the then principal of SSLNT Women’s College Dr Kiran Singh was transferred to Chas College Chas ( Bokaro) following alleged lathi charge on BeD students sitting on Dharna on the road. Dr Meena Srivastava was made principal in-charge but she also did not stay for long. Dr DK Verma was given additional charge.

After his removal DR SKL Das was made principal of SSLNT Women’s College in addition to PK Roy Memorial College.

“V-C is supreme authority of university. He is capable to take any action and inform the Raj Bhawan. Past incidents show no can challenge his authority”, said the retired principal.
The relation between V-C Sukhdeo Bhoi and SSLNT Women’s College principal Dr Sharmila Rani is cordial since June.
