TARUN KUMAR CHOUBEY
Ranchi, May 11: Ranchi’s daughter Heer Kaur’s first Hollywood film, ‘Mother Teresa and Me’, opened in theatres on Friday last.
Heer, who has also directed over a hundred commercials and done advertisement films for many well-known brands in the country, including Domino’s and Tanishq besides appearing in TVF’s web series NCR Days, discussed her career in a TED Talk.
The Ranchi girl, who made a name for herself in Mumbai’s film industry at a young age, shared her success story.
“After completing my schooling from Ranchi as well as BBA from BIT, Mesra, I went to Mumbai to visit my elder sister in the year 2017. My elder sister does modelling in Mumbai. One day suddenly I went to a random suite with my sister, where I came to know that an audition for an advertisement was going on. I also auditioned at my sister’s request and got selected for an advertisement. The audition was for the advertisement of the Nokia phone, which was completely musical. That ad didn’t create much buzz nor did it get much mileage, but they say slow and steady wins the race, something like this I kept working in the world of advertising. Within a month of Nokia, the advertisement for Paytm Gold Card was found. After this, I did not look back and kept climbing the ladder of success. And from here the journey of acting started. If I had not gone to visit Mumbai, I might have been somewhere else today,” she said.
Kaur shared how difficult was the journey to Mumbai.
“I had never thought that I would come to Mumbai and start working. Coming to Mumbai and working here was like a dream. After the sudden demise of my father in the year 2010, there was some pressure on the family, especially on my mother. But despite all the troubles, my mother supported me. I worked hard, and that’s why I have reached this point. When I was younger, I was quite an introvert. I could not talk to people quickly, nor could I connect with them,” she said.
Asked from whom she got support, she gave credit for her success to her family members.
“Apart from my mother, I have younger brothers and sisters in the family. My Sister was already modelling in Mumbai and my brother is currently studying in college. After the death of my father, there was a lot of support from my mother. Relatives said a lot, but she did not pay attention to their words and did not lose courage. I focused on my work, worked hard and have reached this point. Due to the blessings and support of my mother, my new film released on Friday,” she said.
Asked about her wish, she said that she wants Jharkhand to get recognition in the country and the world due to her.
“Today, Ranchi and Jharkhand have got a different identity because of cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In the same way, I want to have a different identity and because of my name and work in the world of acting, people should know Ranchi and Jharkhand,” she said.
