Ranchi, Oct.11: Jharkhand’s Finance and Food Supply Minister Rameshwar Oraon today expressed his commitment for promotion of nine regional and tribal languages of the state terming it as need of the hour. He stated this at an event organized by the Kurukh Bhasha Shikshak Sangh at Press Club.

Oraon expressed his commitment while honoring those students who performed well in one of the regional language papers, Kurukh, in the recently held matriculation examination.

“During Mughal period Urdu was promoted while during the British era English was promoted. Now after the independence, the government has started working for the promotion of Hindi and other indigenous languages. When people who have knowledge of regional and tribal languages get jobs, one can realize its importance. Thus the state government has decided to promote all the nine regional and tribal languages of the state,” Oraon, who is also a retired IPS officer, said.

Oraon also urged that people should also take proactive steps to save their mother tongue and extend their co-operation for its promotion.
