New Delhi, May 5: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, announced on Thursday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will grant electricity subsidies to only those inhabitants of the national capital who want it. He stated that citizens will be asked if they wanted the subsidy to continue, and that the exercise in this respect would begin soon.

“The Delhi government will now ask people whether they want to avail subsidy on electricity. From October 1, only those consumers who opt for it will be provided the subsidy,” said Kejriwal during an online briefing.

Consumers in Delhi currently receive a ‘zero’ electricity bill up to 200 units per month and an 800 subsidy if they spend 201 to 400 units per month.

“We are committed towards making Delhi into a startup capital of India.” As part of the policy, Delhi youth would get help to run a business in the national capital with the financial assistance from the government,” he added.

The government, according to the chief minister, would develop a panel of chartered accountants and lawyers from which enterprises can seek assistance. Kejriwal stated that the government will help entrepreneurs by allowing state-run institute students to take one to two years off to focus on their businesses.
