Shimla, Dec 11: Congress leader Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will take the oath as Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister on Sunday. After being chosen as the new chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu praised the Gandhi family and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Former Congress’s Himachal Pradesh unit chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu will be sworn in as the 15th chief minister of the hill state today with the leader of the opposition in the outgoing Assembly Mukesh Agnihotri as his deputy. The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by senior leaders including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
The 58-year-old Congress leader is the head of the party’s state election campaign committee and a four-time MLA. After a significant party meeting on Saturday, he was chosen as the new Himachal CM.
The other probable candidate for the post was Pratibha Singh, the state unit chief and wife of late party stalwart Virbhadra Singh. When asked about Pratibha Singh being ignored, the Congress leader said that “no one is forgotten and everyone will get their due” hinting that Singh and his son Vikramaditya could get a post in the cabinet.
