Ranchi/Delhi: In a significant development, the Supreme Court has denied bail to Chhavi Ranjan, the former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ranchi, who is accused in a high-profile land scam. The case involves the illegal sale and purchase of army-owned property and charges of money laundering.
A bench comprising Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice HC Sharma heard the arguments on Friday. Senior advocate Siddharth Agarwal and advocate Abhishek Chaudhary represented Ranjan, but the court upheld the decisions of the lower courts, refusing to grant bail.
Chhavi Ranjan’s Bail Plea
Chhavi Ranjan approached the Supreme Court after both the Ranchi ED Special Court and the Jharkhand High Court denied him bail. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a case under ECIR 1/2023, investigating Ranjan for his alleged involvement in the purchase and sale of army-owned land, which is suspected to be a money launderingoperation.
Judicial Custody Continues
Chhavi Ranjan remains in judicial custody while the investigation continues. The case has gained attention due to its connection with army property and the involvement of high-ranking officials.
