New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday took suo moto cognizance of the UP government allowing Kanwar Yatra amid the Kovid-19 pandemic. In this regard, a bench headed by Justice RF Nariman has issued notices to the Central Government and the UP Government. The SC also referred to Prime Minister Modi’s remarks on the third wave. Said that the PM had said that we cannot compromise at all. The matter will be heard on Friday.
Home Secretary ordered to file affidavit on Friday morning
The Supreme Court took suo moto cognizance of a report published in the newspaper on Wednesday morning, which said that Kanwar Yatra is proposed from July 25 to August 6. It also mentions the statement of the Prime Minister, when he met some Chief Ministers and people asked when the third wave of covid would come, they said that it is up to us to stop it and we cannot be careless in the slightest. The court has asked the Home Secretary to reply on this news. The Principal Secretaries of UP and Uttarakhand and the Home Secretary of the Centre have been ordered to file affidavits on Friday morning.
Uttarakhand has cancelled the journey
The Uttarakhand government on Tuesday said that it has cancelled the Kanwar Yatra. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken this decision after a meeting with the officials. In the course of talking to the media, he said, we have decided to cancel the yatra. Said that a new variant has surfaced in the state. In such a situation, we do not want Haridwar to become the centre of the epidemic. People’s lives are our priority. We can’t mess with him. We won’t take any chances.
