Actress Swasika, known for her powerful performances in Malayalam and Tamil films, revealed that she turned down an unexpected casting offer to play Telugu superstar Ram Charan’s mother in Buchi Babu Sana’s upcoming pan-Indian big-budget film Peddi.
Swasika Explains Her Decision
Speaking to Global Malayalam, the Kerala State Film Award winner said she has been receiving a string of “mother roles” recently, but this particular offer left her stunned. “I was shocked when I got the offer to play Ram Charan’s mother. It’s a massive-budget film, but I felt it wasn’t the right time for me to take up such a role. So, I said no,” she explained. Swasika added that while she doesn’t rule out taking on such characters in the future, she doesn’t feel the need to play them right now.
Industry Trend of Casting Younger Actresses as Mothers
Swasika also pointed out how similar casting choices have become common in the industry. Referring to Honey Rose playing Balakrishna’s mother in Veera Simha Reddy, she noted, “Such offers are coming for me too. But I decided it wasn’t the right situation to play the mother of someone like Ram Charan.”
Recent Work and Upcoming Projects
Despite rejecting the Peddi role, Swasika continues to stay active in multiple industries. She was recently seen in the Telugu film Thammudu and in Malayalam in Jeethu Joseph’s Nunakkuzhi. With her strong performances, she remains a sought-after actress in South Indian cinema.
