New Delhi, Sept 12: A 15-member squad has been named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which will take place in Australia from October 16 to November 13.

The team will be led by Rohit Sharma, and India will also bring four standby players to the quadrennial competition.

On October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, India’s Super 12 campaign versus arch-rival Pakistan will get underway (MCG). India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh will be in Group 2, together with the Group B winners and Group A runners-up. The event, which will take place in Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, will include sixteen competing nations.

After recovering his form in the just concluded Asia Cup 2022, star hitter Virat Kohli is scheduled to bat at No. 3 with captain Rohit Sharma and his deputy KL Rahul. In the current T20I cricket season, Suryakumar Yadav has been India’s most productive batsman. He will be scheduled to bat at No. 4 on Australian grounds with the highest bounce.

As a player, Hardik Pandya has improved, and his performance at No. 5 will be essential to India’s prospects of winning their second World T20 championship. The skipper of the 2022 IPL team reached his pinnacle as a player this year, and batting above average has greatly benefited his performance.

As India’s chosen finisher and having played 18 years of international cricket, Dinesh Karthik will play the finishing position at No. 6.

Axar Patel will be a like-to-like replacement who must fill the job of the spin bowling all-rounder because Ravindra Jadeja is out recovering from knee surgery.

Jasprit Bumrah, who is back in action, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a stalwart, and Yuzvendra Chahal, the nation’s top spinner in this format, will lead India’s bowling assault. Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm seamer, and Harshal Patel, a T20 expert, will strengthen India’s seasoned bowling assault in the ICC competition.
