New Delhi, Jan 11: The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Brijesh Patel on Tuesday confirmed that TATA will replace VIVIO as the main sponsor for the upcoming edition of the tournament.
“Yes, TATA will replace Vivo as the title sponser,” said patel.
Vivo’s sponsorship arrangement with the league has two years left on it, therefore Tata will continue to be the primary sponsor during that time.
After a meeting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council on Tuesday, the formal approval was issued, and both Ahmedabad and Lucknow were given a deadline for player signings before the big auction.
Vivo had a deal for title sponsorship rights worth Rs 2200 crore from 2018 to 2022, however the firm took a year off after the 2020 Galwan Valley military clash between Indian and Chinese Army forces, with Dream11 filling the void.
Despite rumours that they were looking to sell the rights to a potential bidder, Vivo returned as IPL title sponsor in 2021, and the BCCI authorised the move.
The IPL will expand to ten teams in 2022 after the RPS Goenka group won the Lucknow-based franchise for the highest offer of Rs 7,090 crore. Meanwhile, CVC Group will acquire the Ahmedabad-based franchise after CVC Capital won the bid for 5,625 crore.
Notably, the 2022 mega auction will take place in Bengaluru in the second week of February. In November last year, all the existing IPL franchises had revealed the list of their retained players ahead of the mega auction of the upcoming season.
