Jamshedpur, May 11: Amid protest from various quarters the authorities of Tatanagar railway station today made it clear that the four reservation counters which were recently shifted to the second entry will continue to function there itself.
“Four counters for reservation tickets which were recently shifted to the second entry will continue to function there. Only the counters for women passengers and elderly passengers will be functional at the original entry of the Tatanagar railway station, ” said Raghuvansh Kumar, director of Tatanagar railway station.
Notably, the Chakradharpur railway division of South Eastern Railway recently decided for shifting the reservation counters to the newly opened second entry from the Burmamines- end of Tatanagar railway station.
The decision saw protests from various passenger bodies and political outfits, but to no avail.
Railway officials explained that the reservation counters were shifted to the second entry as a large number of passengers come to the station from the eastern fringes of the city
The second entry was made operational at the Burmamines- end to facilitate those passengers.
In absence of the second entry, all passengers had to enter the station from the original entry point at the Station Road. This often led to heavy rush and chaos.
“The reservation counters at the second entry would be of much beneficial for the passengers therefore we decided against shifting the counters for a reservation to the second entry, ” said an official of the commercial department.
He said that soon more passenger amenities would be provided at the second entry which of late is catering to 40 per cent of passengers coming to the station to board trains.
