New Delhi, June 27: Shiv Sena legislative party withdrawal has resulted in a majority loss for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government, according to a plea submitted to the Supreme Court on Monday by dissident MLA Eknath Shinde.
In an appeal, the Shinde camp argued that the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition had abused the anti-defection law by sending them the disqualification notifications that deputy speaker Narhari Zirwal had sent to them on June 21.
The 38 MLAs from the Shinde camp who established the ‘Shiv Sena Balasaheb’ group on Saturday drew criticism from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. Between the two factions, Shinde’s action has sparked a long-standing conflict.
Notably, the Shiv Sena passed several resolutions at its executive meeting on Saturday, including one declaring that Balasaheb Thackeray owns the organisation and that no one else is permitted to use his name.
