The Kerala Story 2 hit theatres on February 27, 2026, amid legal hurdles and intense public debate. Despite last-minute court proceedings, the sequel managed a steady opening at the box office on its first day.

Release Faced Legal Challenge Before Clearance

Just a day before release, the Kerala High Court had stayed the film for 15 days, raising concerns over public order and communal harmony while questioning the CBFC certification. However, a division bench later lifted the stay, allowing screenings to begin from the evening of February 27.

First Day Box Office Performance

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond collected over ₹3.5 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day. Globally, the film earned approximately ₹4.15 crore. With the weekend ahead, trade analysts expect collections to rise. Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, the film is reportedly made on a budget of around ₹28 crore.

Storyline And Ongoing Debate

The film revolves around the lives of three young women and touches upon sensitive themes such as alleged deception in marriage, forced religious conversion, and radicalization. These themes have fueled both support and criticism. While some viewers describe it as exposing social issues, others have labeled it propaganda-driven and divisive. The debate continues strongly across social media platforms.

Star Cast

The film features Ulka Gupta, Aishwarya Ojha, and Aditi Bhatia in key roles.
