Ramgarh, April 5: Exchanging ATM cards while ‘helping’ people who have gone to withdraw money is a way for crooks to steal money from innocent victims. The crooks then use that ATM to withdraw people’s hard-earned money from another ATM.
A girl in Ramgarh district’s Chattarmandu hamlet had a similar experience of fraud when she arrived at the Hitachi ATM in Ward 28 to withdraw money. She said that three youths were already occupying the machine.
One person approached, took the money, and walked away. Then a thug inside the ATM instructed the girl outside that she should withdraw the money first. The student then used the card to withdraw money from an ATM. However, due to a slow network, the process took longer than expected. After that, a thug inside the ATM began assisting her.
After that, two more thugs who were outside, entered the ATM in the name of assisting the girl, changed the ATM and replaced it with another ATM. After that, all three of them left.
When the money didn’t come out of the ATM, the student took it out and discovered that it had been replaced. She stepped outside and discovered that no one was there. She returned home and told her father, Mithlesh Kumar Singh, about the incident.
When asked about the incident, the girl stated that three youths changed her ATM in the name of assisting her in withdrawing money. One of the three criminals was wearing a cap, while the other two were dressed normally (jeans pants, shirt and t-shirt).
The ATM was in the name of the victim’s son, Adarsh Kumar Singh, according to the victim’s father. Rs. 1500 was taken out by the crooks by travelling to another ATM. The event has not yet been reported to the police.
