New Delhi, Oct 2: Following a thorough search, Delhi Police on Monday captured three suspected Islamic State (IS) terrorists who were wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The module was allegedly preparing to carry out terrorist attacks in North India under the direction of handlers from abroad, according to Delhi Police.
“Incriminating material recovered including materials suspected to be used for IED fabrication,” police said.
Only a few days after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) offered a Rs. 3 lakh reward for his capture, Shahnawaz, one of the suspected terrorists, was detained by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police.
“Delhi Police Special Cell arrests NIA’s most wanted terrorist Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama. NIA had placed a reward of Rs 3 lakhs on the arrested terrorist Shahnawaz, who was wanted in the Pune ISIS case,” Delhi police said.
In the Pune ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) module case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) last month issued images of four terror suspects, including Shahnawaz, and announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for information leading to their capture. The agency has stated that the informant’s identity will remain a secret.
According to the police, Shahnawaz, who worked as an engineer, had managed to escape from police custody in Pune and was residing in Delhi.
Shahnawaz is currently being questioned alongside the other two terrorist suspects.
