Srinagar: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir eliminated three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists in an encounter on Thursday morning in the dense forests of Nadir village in Tral, Pulwama district. This marks the second major anti-terror operation in the Valley within 48 hours.
Joint operation leads to swift action
Acting on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists, a joint team of the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation early Thursday. As the forces approached, the hiding terrorists opened fire. In retaliation, the forces neutralized three JeM operatives.
The area is still under a search operation, as inputs suggest the possible presence of more terrorists in the vicinity.
Lashkar terrorists killed earlier in Operation Keller
On Tuesday, security forces had launched Operation Keller in Zinpather Keller area of Shopian, where three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were gunned down. The militants were identified as Shahid Kutte and Adnan Shafi Dar.
Shahid, a native of Shopian, had joined LeT in March 2023 and was involved in the killing of a BJP sarpanch in May 2024. Adnan, from Wanduna Melhora, had joined LeT in October 2024 and was responsible for the murder of a non-local labourer.
Heightened alert after Pahalgam terror attack
These operations come amid heightened security across Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, in which several tourists were killed. Security forces have since launched an aggressive manhunt for the Pakistani perpetrators, with posters displaying their identities now visible in parts of Shopian. Authorities have announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh for information leading to their capture.
