Dhanbad March 11:  Deputy Commissioner ( DC) Sandip Singh today paid Rs 2.5 lakh each to three national medal winner archers of Dhanbad-Jyoti Kumari, Madhu Kumari, and Md Adil for equippment.

All the three junior players of Dhanbad have won medals in the national championship while representing Jharkhand and the state championship. Last year in ‘Khelo India’ competition all the three archers of Dhanbad had shot into the limelight when they won medals defeating ace archers of the country.

Jyoti Kumari and Madhu Kumari are siblings and along with Md Adil they practise at Tata Steel Archery Centre Digwadih. Their practice has been badly affected due to lack of equipment.  Santosh Kumar, the father of Jyoti and Madhu, works in a private firm and reportedly does not afford to provide costly equipment to his daughters.
Official sources said they approached chief minister Hemant Soren who directed Deputy Commissioner Sandip Singh to ensure the equipment to these national archers.  The deputy commissioner completed the formalities for providing Rs 2.5 lakh each to all the three players.

Three days ago all the three archers had also met sports minister of state Hafijul Ansari and briefed him about the hurdle they were facing in preparation for the state as well national championship.

Dhanbad District Archery Association general secretary Md Zubair Alam while highly appreciating the step of the deputy commissioner said that financial help to poor players would encourage sports activities in the region. This is the first-time archery players of the district have been given financial help for purchasing equipment that are beyond the reach of middle-class sports families.

The father of the girls, Santosh  Kumar, expressed gratitude to the deputy commissioner and the district sports officer for providing equipment.
