Srinagar: In a tragic incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, three soldiers lost their lives when an Army vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge on Saturday afternoon. Adverse weather conditions and poor visibility were reported to be the main causes of the accident.

Accident Details

The incident occurred near the SK Payen area around 2:30 pm. In its statement, the Indian Army noted, “Due to inclement weather and low visibility, an Army vehicle skidded off the road, falling into a gorge. Injured soldiers were immediately evacuated with assistance from local residents. The Indian Army extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Kashmiri locals for their timely support.”

Unfortunately, despite efforts to save the injured, three soldiers succumbed to their injuries. “The Indian Army mourns the loss of three bravehearts and expresses deep condolences to the bereaved families,” the statement further added.

Recurring Challenges

This incident follows a similar accident last month in Poonch, where five soldiers were killed and five others injured after their truck fell into a 300-foot gorge during operational duty. The White Knight Corps had then expressed its condolences, stating, “We deeply mourn the tragic loss of five brave soldiers in Poonch while performing their duties.”

Key Insights

•The challenging terrain and severe weather in Jammu and Kashmir continue to endanger Army operations.

•Local civilian support remains a crucial factor in timely rescue efforts during such incidents.
