SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Sept 10: Three teenage girls of Giridih drowned in Kailumaran Dam under Debri police station, around 45 km away from the district headquarters on Friday.

An official of the Debri police station said the incident took place around 10 am. All the three girls are residents of Gadikalan village, who had gone to bring sand from the dam for Karma Puja. As they reportedly entered the dam for bathing they drowned.
The deceased were identified as Renu Kumari (18) daughter of Kishore Yadav, Kajal Kumari (16) daughter of Tribhuvan Yadav, and Munita Kumari (15), daughter of Laxman Swarnkar.
Debri police station officer-in-charge Santosh Kumar Mandal said girls of the village had gone in a group to take sand for Karma Puja. Having seen them drowning, other girls in the group were alarmed. The villagers reached the spot soon and brought out all the three after half an hour of rescue in the Dam. However, all the girls were already dead.
“Bodies of all three girls have been sent for post-mortem at the district headquarter,” said Santosh Kumar Mandal to media persons.

One of the members from the girl’s group said that all three victim girls did not know swimming and in the course of bathing entered deep water. They tried to rescue each other and drowned.
