New Delhi, Aug 20: TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal on Saturday sent to CBI custody till August 24 in the cattle smuggling case.
He was detained last week for his role in the cattle smuggling case. Anubrata Mondal had been taken for a medical exam earlier on August 20 before he was brought before the court.
Mondal, a close friend of Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, was previously ordered by an Asansol court to remain in CBI custody until August 20. The TMC leader was questioned by the CBI on the livestock smuggling scheme on Saturday for a number of hours.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) frozen Anubrata Mondal and his family’s assets on Wednesday. The central agency, which is looking into the leader’s role in the cattle smuggling case, seized the assets, principally fixed deposits with State Bank of India, Bank of India, and Axis Bank worth around Rs 16.97 crore in the name of Mondals.
Anubrata Mondal was detained by the CBI on August 11 after he repeatedly ignored their summonses in relation to the livestock smuggling scheme. According to reports, a CBI team entered his home on Thursday about 10 a.m. as the CRPF was on duty outside.
