According to CNA, Ou Yang visited the southern county of Pingtung on a business trip. He was appointed to the position at the beginning of the year to oversee various missile production projects.

The news of death of top official comes amid the ongoing tensions between Taiwan and China over US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

China, on Wednesday, August 3, declared that it would stop exporting natural sand to Taiwan in response to Pelosi’s visit to the island. According to Libijian, the Consul General of China in Karachi, China also reportedly halted imports of citrus fruits, chilled white hairtail, and frozen horse mackerel from the Taiwan region as of Wednesday.

Nancy Pelosi travelled to Taiwan on Tuesday, August 2, despite repeated security warnings from Beijing. Beijing insisted that her visit violates both the terms of the joint communiqué between China and the US and the one-China principle. It said that the visit greatly jeopardises the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and sends the ‘separatist forces for Taiwan independence’ the wrong message.
