Dhanbad, June 6: Motor parts trader Sanjeevanand Thakur was shot at by unidentified criminals at Dhyaa under Barwadda police station yesterday evening.

A senior police official said the incident occurred around 8 pm. Sanjeevanand was returning on bike to his Sushnibela colony-based house from Naya Bazar after shutting down his shop in the evening.

On Dhyya main road, near the house of senior Congress leader late Suresh Singh, the bike-borne criminal fired two shots at him. Sanjeeevanand Thakur was sitting in the back and his younger brother Vidyanand Tahkur was driving the bike.

He was immediately taken to Asrfi Hospital where doctors after first Aid referred him to Mission Superspecialty Durgapur.

Getting information, SP (rural) Reeshma Rameshan, DSP ( Govindpur) Amar Pandey,  DSP ( law and order)  Arvind Vinha also reached the spot immediately. The police also searched the CCTV of a nearby house in which two suspected persons are seen going on a bike.

Rural SP Reeshma Rameshan said that criminals shot at the trader. Police are investigating the incident from different angles.

The wife of trader, Arti Thakur, told media persons that one month ago dreaded goon of  Wasseypur Prince Khan had demanded  Rs 35 lakh as extortion from him. Since  Prince Khan demanded extortion from almost all shop owners of Naya Bazar, Sanjeeva Thakur did not take his demand seriously.
