Jamshedpur, Feb 19: Criminals struck the traders again by decamping gold jewelry worth over Rs 10 lakhs from near a shop at Sakchi market.

Significantly, this time the criminals did not use any weapon but played the “police card” while duping two staff of a gold hallmark shop at the busy Bashant Cinema area in Sakchi market on Friday evening.

Concerned over the fresh cases of the criminal act resulting in loss of over Rs 10 lakhs at Sakchi and failure on the part of the police in cracking the case of Rs 32 lakhs loot in Bistupur, the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has on Saturday called for an emergency meeting of its executive members in the evening.

“The law and order situation has nosedived in the city with the police doing nothing to control the criminals who are committing one major crime after another with impunity. The traders’ community is extremely frightened as the police are just mute spectators. We have, therefore, called an emergency meeting of the SCCI’s executive members to draw a course of action in the face of repeated attacks on us, ” said the SCCI president.

Moonka said the traders’ body will have to take a hard line as it is left with no option left for it to cope with the spurt in the incidents of looting and duping here.

Confederation of All India Traders national secretary Suresh Sonthalia too echoed what Moonka said.

“The traders must take strong measures to get rid of the situation arising out of the lawlessness in the city with not being able to do anything positive, ” said Sonthalia.

Two staff of Deep Jewellers near Basant Cinema were returning to the jewelry shop having got hallmarking of the jewelries from near by Hallmark shop of Rajan Shroff last evening.  Outside Shroff’s shop were two men who introduced themselves as policemen and claimed to the two staff that they had information that they were carrying drugs in the bag. As one of the staff handed over the bag to get it checked, the two men who were seated on a bike started the vehicle and fled the scene with the jewelry bag.

The police were informed immediately but a police party reached the spot and carried out the routine formality only.

City SP, Subhash Chandra Jat who had also visited the spot confirmed the crime and claimed they would detect the case soon.

“We have taken out the CCTV footage of the two criminals who duped the jewelry shop staff of gold jewelry worth over Rs 10 lakhs by posing themselves as cops. We are trying our best to detect the case soon, ” said Jat.

The City SP, on being queried claimed that they would also solve the loot case involving Rs 32 lakhs soon, adding that they have made some progress in its detection.
