PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Feb 15: Traders of Jamshedpur at a meeting at the Chamber Bhavan in Bistupur late last evening expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Jamshedpur.

They strongly condemned yesterday’s incident in which armed criminals looted Rs 32 lakhs from two staff of a leading jewelry store in Bistupur.

The loot took place on the premises of Gajraj Mansion along the busy Bistupur Main Road about 400 meters away from the Bistupur police station in broad daylight while the area was bustling with commuters.

The meeting called by the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( SCCI ) gave a 72-hours ultimatum to the district police for nabbing the criminals involved in the loot case.

The traders also decided to assemble at Bistupur this afternoon and stage a black badge protest to condemn the incident.

“Criminals are having a free run these days. There has been a spurt in cases of crime in steel city which the administration has failed to check,” said Vijay Anand Moonka, president of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

Another trader said that the cops are only focusing on helmet-checking drives whereas the cases of petty crimes are on the rise.

Meanwhile, police have failed to get any breakthrough in the loot incident.

“We have initiated a probe. Raids are on to nab the culprits,” said a police official at Bistupur who is probing into the incident.

He said that they are also scanning the footage of CCTV cameras to reach the culprits.
