Jamshedpur, Aug 17: The traffic wing of East Singhbhum police on Tuesday launched a drive against those parking their vehicles in an unauthorised manner on either side of the busy Straight Mile Road in Sakchi causing traffic hassles.
The drive which began at around 10 am continued for about two hours during which vehicles – two wheelers and cars which were found in the No Parking zone were towed away to Sakchi police station.
The vehicle owners ended up paying a penalty of Rs 200 for two-wheelers and Rs 500 for four-wheelers.
The focus of the drive was near the congested Medicine Line.
A senior police official who was deployed at the spot to supervise the drive said, “We followed all the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. We took photographs of the illegally parked vehicles and the process of towing. We towed away only those vehicles which were parked illegally for more than an hour. There is no provision to claim for damages if vehicles are damaged while they were towed.”
Last week, over a dozen four-wheelers and several two-wheelers were towed away to Bistupur thana and later released after owners paid fines as per MVI rules.
Straight Mile Road is an important artery that connects Sakchi, Bistupur, and Kadma.
The road witnesses a daily traffic of close to one lakh vehicles including cars, bikes, auto-rickshaws and other vehicles.
