Ranchi, March 21: The issue of attack on the tribal hostel in Ganga Nagar under Sukhdeo Nagar police station in Ranchi was today raised in the assembly.
Congress legislator Rajesh Kacchap raised the issue during the debate on the budget of five departments. He demanded action against those who attacked the hostel where poor tribal students from different parts of the state pursue their high school, intermediate and graduate education.
Kacchap expected the administration to take responsibility for the poor students who were deprived of the facility of having safe drinking water and washrooms during the attack at the time when matriculation examination is at hand.
Earlier, another legislator from the party Bandhu Tirkey brought privilege motion against the officer-in-charge of Sukhdeo Nagar police station Mamta Kumari, who allegedly first failed to prevent the mob attack on the tribal hostel, and their attempt to defame a tribal legislator Jigga Sushashan Horo, who attempted to give her a piece of mind.
On March 16, a mob of around 200 unscrupulous elements ransacked Naveen Sarna Hostel, where around 150 tribal students from different parts of the state stayed to shape their academic careers.
It was getting around 9.30 am when the mob armed with an axe, sword, spade, shovel and sticks besides other traditional weapons barged in the hostel campus spread in about 80 decimal areas besides Harmu rivulet in Ganga Nagar under Sukhdeo Nagar police station and started damaging the properties of the tribal students.
The next day, a group of tribal legislators reached the hostel and threatened the police officers of dire consequences in case of repetition of such an incident with the tribal. One of the legislators also threatened the officer-in-charge of Sukhdeo Nagar Mamta Kumari. The Police association took strong exception to the threat and threatened to bring the matter in the knowledge of assembly speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto.
