Asansol, June 15: The tribal people of West Bengal’s Asansol protested against the Kurmi community amid their continuing protests calling for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for their community.
In West Bengal’s Asansol City, in the Chanda Mor area, the tribal people staged a protest by blocking National Highway-2 for more than an hour.
Long lines of vehicles were observed on the road for several kilometres due to this roadblock.
After the cops eventually convinced them to leave, the flow of traffic returned to normal.
Notably, after allegedly throwing stones at TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy last month, Kurmi community members in West Bengal’s Jhargram district attacked West Bengal minister Birbaha Hansda’s vehicle.
