Ranchi, Aug.23: Organised under the aegis of the Jharkhand Bachao Morcha, the tribals staged a sit-in in front of the Raj Bhavan with their four-point charter of demands.

The demands included implementation of Khatiyan-based local policy, strict implementation of provisions of land protective law, CNT and SPT Acts, implementation of recruitment policy, promotion of nine regional languages, pension, honour and employment to those who fought for Jharkhand separate state and immediate solution to the problem of tribal.

One of the agitators, Prabhakar Kujur, demanded implementation of Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) Extension Act, 1996 in tribal-dominated areas. He said without strengthening a Gram Sabha it is not possible to develop the state. He was of the opinion that neither the Rajya Sabha nor the Lok Sabha, it is only a Gram Sabha which can save locals.

Social activist Madhyas Kerketta said that the government has been formed but the tribal people of the state are not safe. According to him, land of the people in 15 tribal dominated districts of the state is being sold and it is required to be stopped.

Another activist S. Kerketta said that the policies being made in the state are not being made for the development of the tribal society. He was of the opinion that the present government is not listening to the tribal.
